White Salmon, Washington
Jewett Blvd will be closed for our Nights in White Salmon - 2009 Art & Wine Fusion festival, and what better way to kick off this river-themed event than with a Krazy Kayak Street Slalom??? Already sounds interesting, doesn’t it ... but how will it work, you ask?
Teams of up to 6 members, including “salmon huskies” and musher kayaker(s), wearing costumes of their own creation, will pull and/or push their creatively self-decorated kayak along a winding chalk course about two blocks up Jewett Blvd. So you won’t scrape up your boat any more than it already is, the kayak will be strapped into an OSHA (Oh So Humble and Awkward) cradle mounted on wheels, which we will provide. The cradle will have ropes attached for pulling, and will be mounted on fixed- and swivel-caster wheels for rolling and navigating.
The only things we require are that you run the course SAFELY and SANELY so you don’t hurt yourselves or the spectators lining the street, you don’t do damage to anyone or anything, and you don’t offend or gross out anyone at this family-friendly event.
Since kayaking is all about having fun with great flair, prizes will be given for the Best Team Costumes, the Best Decorated Kayak, and the Most Creative Style on the course. However, so you don’t spend too much time showing "style" on the course, ties (i.e., judges indecision) will be decided by the best time through the course.
Sounds awesome, doesn’t it? Where do you sign up? Well, the form for the FREE registration is right here. So get your team together, turn in your registration (did we mention, it’s FREE) and then get working on your costumes, boat, and style for the course.
Don’t have a kayak? Let us know below and we’ll put you in touch with someone you can borrow/rent/buy from.
Finally, get yourselves to the starting area by 4:30 pm on Saturday, July 18, 2009.
Most of all, remember to have FUN! Questions? Contact Lloyd DeKay via email or at (509) 637-2737.
